VERY well done to the Cumbrian pairing of Paul McGimpsey and Pecker Woods who made a valiant effort to become Cumbria's second Gold Cup Champions but ended very worthy runners up in a tournament which matched the best against the best.
Paul and Pecker got to the last pair in the premier doubles event of the year with a stunning victory over the Cambridgeshire international partnership of Martin Adams and Shaun Greatbatch. Our guys saw them off with an excellent 4-1 win to get to the final where they faced the Shropshire pair of Andrew Roberts with England's man of the tournament in the recent home internationals Steve Farmer. The Shropshire duo won the title with a 4-1 scoreline and I am extremely grateful to Michelle Jackson for having sent me a text to tell me so because when I looked at the internet it was giving the win to Pecker and Gimp by the same score!
